Several years ago there was a band from Syracuse, NY called the Wallmen. I swear they were one of the Great Bands. I was lucky enough to see them live once opening for another Great Band, GAM. If you missed them, it’s a real shame. Try and dig up their records, you’ll thank me. Update: The Wallmen now have a Myspace profile with music including some unreleased (or under-released) tracks from their catalog.
On their website was a page called the “Dead Judy Band Name Server.” The idea was brilliant. It was a huge list of band names that were provided for use free of charge. People could submit band name ideas to the Wallmen and they would be added if they were decent. Some of the names were ridiculous and I doubt if anyone would go see a band that used them as real names. Others were hysterically funny and you found yourself wishing some band would call themselves that.
The Wallmen have long since broken up and the website is no longer online. As a tribute of sorts to that great band, I have reconstituted the Dead Judy Band Name Server, v. 2.0 here and will continue to host it into the future. I have attempted to maintain the format and spelling of the list in the last incarnation that I remember seeing it. This archive comes from a copy I saved on a disc nearly 7 years ago.
