…but these “fans” draw comics about her. And then people wonder why “celebrities” get paranoid about their privacy. Jesus.
It’s not just hype, the movie is pretty good. I won some free tickets so that made it better. I went into it with low expectations, so I was really happy by the end of it. If you are looking forward to the greatest movie ever, go watch Citizen Kane because this ain’t it.
What got me at the beginning were the opening credits. Singer used the credit style from the original Superman: The Movie with the blue vector graphic letters. I was laughing through them, it was so great. Not to spoil anything for anybody (as if anyone reads this site other than my mother…), but the end of the movie is a shot-for-shot recreation of the end of the original film and I loved that! I was afraid Singer was gonna feel like he had to prove something by putting his “stamp” all over it, but he really did make an effort to follow the original feel and attitude.
What lost him points was the length. This is a long flick. It comes in at over 2+1/2 hours and this length allowed Singer to include some stuff that could have just been left out. The film needed to be tightened up more. Some things were explained well, some other things were totally overlooked. Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor was great and Brendon Routh as Superman did a great job. There were moments when he looked exactly like Christopher Reeve. Parker Posey was a treat to have in a film like this too.
The funniest thing about this video from IFC is his fucking house! That guy used to sleep on the floor of SST records under the desk (and I can only imagine what that floor must have been like) and now he folds his clean white towls on a designer bed in a swank NYC apartment. Punk or No Punk? Hard to say…
