The Tiny Meteors

The Tiny Meteors played a pretty good show at The Green Bean Friday night. And we made about $65 bucks in tips.

Rock music

I’m going to see Bruce Springsteen at the 28th and then Lou Reed on the 29th. I’m giddy.

Update: Lots of super rock. Both shows were awesome. Then I saw Superchunk and Arcade Fire on the following Thursday do a free show in Greensboro to support Obama. I’m still resting up…

A new pair of Chuck’s

There’s nothing like opening a new pair of Converse All-Star Chuck Taylors. Even though they’re now made in China and don’t last as long, they’re still my favorite pair of shoes.

Also, tonight, Billy Joe Winghead and JATT in Burlington. I probably shouldn’t go since classes start tomorrow at 9am, but BJW came all the way from OK City, so…

Rollins: Israel is “up against the real.”

Punk-rocker-turned-indie-filmmaker/spoken-word-artist Henry Rollins filmed the first episode of the new season of his IFC show in Israel. Says Rollins:

In Israel, there’s a lot to learn from anyone, because to live there you’ve got to deal with the truth. Things happen real fast. Your day goes from cool to catastrophic in one second. Israelis know that the cafĂ© you’re in could blow up, or the shopping mall, and they rock that. The way they do it is, they celebrate hard. They love hard. They’re a very vigorous and passionate people. I can’t say enough about the people I’ve met there.

In Israel, they are up against “the real”, while in Palestine, they are up against “the Humm-Vee.”

I like Henry. I have bunch of his records and a couple of books. I laughed outrageously at his denunciation of Ann Coulter that spread around the internet a while back. But in this he is just plain wrong.

I’d like to hear what he would say if he took his punk-rock-ass to Bil’in and watched unarmed civilians being beaten and shot at by those Israeli soldiers who, I suppose, are up against it inside the West Bank. If you want to do something punk Henry, go hang out with the Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall who challenge their society and government to end it’s racist beliefs and practices. That’s punk.

The Human Ape

This is the best new music I have heard in a long time.
